Job Description

A financial services organization is seeking a seasoned State & Local Tax professional with deep banking-industry experience to support multistate tax compliance, planning, accounting, and controversy matters. This role will focus heavily on bank-specific state tax requirements, including income and franchise tax, apportionment, quarterly estimates, tax provisions, returns, and state tax notices. The ideal candidate brings 5+ years of banking tax experience and can independently research complex tax matters and provide practical guidance to internal stakeholders. Key Responsibilities Review state tax estimates, provisions, and tax returns to ensure compliance with applicable state regulations and filing requirements. Prepare and/or review quarterly and monthly state tax provisions and estimated tax calculations. Review state income tax returns, apportionment information, and supporting documentation. Perform annual state tax nexus and apportionment analyses across multiple jurisdictions. Monitor state tax return preparation and filing processes and ensure deadlines are met. Manage notices and correspondence from state tax authorities, including researching issues, preparing responses, and resolving outstanding matters. Monitor state and local tax law developments and assess potential impacts on the organization. Conduct research on complex SALT questions and provide guidance on business-specific tax matters. Coordinate external tax consulting needs, including sales and use tax and other indirect tax matters. Support tax accounting activities, including financial statement tax provisions and external audit inquiries. Develop and update tax policies, procedures, and internal controls related to state and local tax compliance.
